Listen for the whisper, and your body won't have to scream
Respect for your body comes in so many forms. Eating nutritious foods for the sake of staying healthy and respecting your body needs it. Drinking water over other drinks so it doesn’t have to process insane amounts of additives. Slowing down so the brain can let go/be stress free and you can listen to how you are feeling. Staying active so your body doesn’t have to work as hard to do daily tasks. Stretching to release overworked muscles, maintain posture, prevent pain and injury.
I can honestly say I have an immense amount of respect for my body, and I try to never judge it. It’s always healing something or working against demands, constantly. I am active but I also like to be lazy (still working on the guilt of being unproductive). I eat well but I also love treats...a lot! Alcohol is supposed to be off the table for me thanks to my condition, but I like to have the occasional drink (and OMG...I’m still alive, lol). Balance is part of the respect, not deprivation.
My body keeps my heart beating, my lungs pumping, allows me to do what I love for a living, and gets me from point A to point B. And even more, it created and carried two amazing babies...and then just kept on working! Aside from working out and yoga, I very much value and show respect for my body through other avenues of self care! Massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropractor, Physiotherapy, meditation, counselling, the use of herbs and essential oils.
You don’t need to be broken to receive self care! To be honest, not much has had to change with my self care routine over the past few years despite my recent neurological diagnosis...in fact the impact of these changes on my body has been IMMENSELY more manageable and less sudden because of it. I am fortunate to have an amazing team of professionals (you know who you are) to help my body maintenance on a monthly basis! Without my body, what the fuck do I have?
You don’t wait for your vehicle to break down before you get the oil changed. Your body works all damn day for you, and there is maintenance to be done. Take care of the mind, treasure the body (no matter what size or shape), and show your body the respect it deserves❤️
